Our Impact
Since day one, we’ve championed the simple idea of buying less and buying better. True quality is made to last, and at Piglet in Bed, we believe the best things in life are those that get better with love and time.
Every choice we make has an impact, and while we’re by no means perfect, we are continuously learning and improving as we work towards a more sustainable future – embracing the mindful, slow-living approach that lies at the core of our mission.
Design & Materials
Designs that stand the test of time
Our bedding and homewares are crafted with future generations in mind, combining timeless designs with high-quality, long-lasting materials. We value enduring style over fleeting trends, which is why our core collection remains constant season after season. Limited-edition pieces are carefully curated to complement this range, offering newness for our loyal community of comfort lovers.
We’re picky about the materials we use, and most of our products are made solely from natural, responsibly sourced fibres, including certified European linen, traceable Merino wool, and cotton sourced through the Better Cotton Initiative. The majority of our pieces are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified too, ensuring they’re free from harmful chemicals and dyes.
Partners & Production
Partnering with like-minded makers
We’ve built close-knit relationships with our makers and suppliers, many of whom have been with us since the early days of Piglet in Bed. Each partner is carefully vetted to meet our high ethical and social standards, and we carry out regular visits to make sure safe, fair working conditions are always in place.
Most of our collections are crafted in Portugal, where we work with makers who share our commitment to sustainability. This year, our linen and linen blend bedding partner reduced CO2 emissions by switching half of their fleet to all-electric vehicles, while our pyjama supplier now runs mostly on renewable energy thanks to their own solar plant. Elsewhere, our partners in Britain, Turkey, India and China are also doing their bit – reducing waste, cutting plastic use, conserving water, and developing new technologies to lessen their footprint.
Packaging & Postage
Packaged with love and care
We put a lot of thought into designing our packaging to minimize waste while still creating a lovely unboxing experience. Orders arrive in fully recyclable cardboard mailing boxes, and any swing tags and postcards can be recycled at home. We’ve also reduced plastic in shipments to our warehouse, with any essential bags retained by our fulfilment partner for repackaging returns or passing on to other businesses.
We’re mindful of the impact of transporting products between our global partners and our warehouse in the UK. We choose ocean freight over air as much as possible, placing fewer but larger orders to cut emissions, and we’re manufacturing as much as we can closer to home. For customer deliveries, we partner with couriers committed to sustainable practices.
Reuse & Recycling
Finding a purpose for every piece
The nature of our bedding production means fabric waste is minimal, but any offcuts are made into new products or recycled locally. Pieces that don’t quite meet our quality standards still find a loving home. We donate bedding to organizations like My Sisters' House and Healing Homes West, host staff charity sample sales, and occasionally offer our imperfect items at a discount in our boutique stores.
When we took the leap into physical retail, we did so with durability and reuse at the center of our design decisions. Instead of large-scale buildouts, we use modular units that last longer and have a lighter environmental impact. We furnish our shops with carefully sourced vintage furniture pieces and our window displays feature reclaimed items and recyclable materials wherever possible.
