Naturally Better Bedding for Earth Day

Naturally Better Bedding for Earth Day

Today is Earth Day, a global movement to reflect on the importance of protecting our environment, appreciating the beauty around us, and embracing more sustainable ways of living. It’s also a good chance to take stock and consider the everyday choices we make – the small, considered shifts that can have a lasting impact over time.

At Piglet, we’ve always believed in buying less, but buying better – investing in high-quality pieces, choosing natural materials, and creating designs to be lived in and loved for years. So, in honor of Earth Day, we’re taking a closer look at what makes our natural bedding a more sustainable choice – from the fibers we use to the finer details that bring it all together.

Why Natural Fibers Matter

The materials we surround ourselves with every day have a bigger impact than we might think. Arguably, nowhere is this more important than our bed, where we spend (at least) a third of our lives.

Linen: Low Impact, Long Lasting

We’ll start with linen bedding (no surprises there). Made from the fibers of the flax plant, linen is one of the most sustainable textiles available. Flax relies largely on rainwater, requires minimal fertilizer, and uses every part of the plant – meaning very little goes to waste.

Responsibly Sourced Cotton

Our cotton bedding is made from 100% natural fibers, sourced in partnership with the Better Cotton Initiative. This supports more responsible farming practices, helping to reduce water use and limit harmful chemicals while supporting farming communities.

Naturally Breathable Wool

Our duvets, pillows and mattress toppers are filled with Merino wool or British wool and encased in organic cotton. Wool is renewable, biodegradable, and naturally temperature-regulating – keeping you comfortable all year round.

Made to Last, Made to Love

A more sustainable home isn’t about constant change – it’s about choosing pieces that last.

Linen is naturally strong and softens beautifully over time, meaning it can be used and loved for years. And for our cotton bedding, we use 200-thread-count long-staple cotton for lasting comfort. Fewer replacements mean less waste – and a more thoughtful approach to consumption.

We design with this in mind. Our collections favor timeless colors and relaxed styles that return season after season, alongside new pieces designed to work effortlessly with what you already own. The idea is simple: buy once, use often, and keep it for longer.

Thoughtful Details – Right Down to the Buttons

It’s often the smaller details that tell the bigger story.

All of our bedding is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, meaning it’s free from harmful chemicals and dyes. We also consider every component of our bedding, right down to the buttons.

Our cotton bedding is finished with corozo buttons, made from the nuts of tagua trees and harvested in a way that doesn’t contribute to deforestation. On our linen pieces, you’ll find buttons crafted from coconut shell – a clever way of repurposing a natural by-product that might otherwise go to waste. Both natural alternatives to plastic.

We work closely with a trusted network of makers, many of whom we’ve partnered with for years, to ensure careful craftsmanship and responsible production every step of the way.

A More Mindful Way Forward

Creating a more sustainable home doesn’t mean starting over. It’s often the result of small, considered choices – prioritizing quality, choosing natural materials, and focusing on longevity over excess.

Our bedding fits naturally into this approach. Beautiful, timeless, and made to last, it reveals its true quality over time.

Happy Earth Day, Piglets!

Common Questions About Sustainable Bedding

Is natural bedding better for the environment?

Natural fibers like linen, cotton and wool are generally considered a more environmentally conscious choice than synthetic materials. They’re renewable, biodegradable, and typically require less energy-intensive processing than synthetics made from fossil fuels, which can take hundreds of years to break down.

How long should natural bedding last?

With proper care, high-quality natural bedding – particularly linen – can last for many years (if not decades!). It often becomes softer and more comfortable with time, unlike synthetic alternatives which may wear out more quickly.

What makes linen a sustainable fabric?

Linen is made from flax, a resilient crop that requires minimal water and little fertilizer to grow. The whole plant is used in production, which keeps waste low.

Why is organic or responsibly sourced cotton considered more sustainable?

Organic and responsibly sourced cotton is grown in ways that have a lower environmental impact than conventional farming. This often includes reduced use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, improved soil health, and more efficient water management.

Why does natural bedding feel different to sleep in?

Natural fibers like linen and wool are naturally breathable, which helps regulate temperature as you sleep – cooler when it’s warm, and cozier when it’s not. They also soften with use, so they don’t just last longer, they become more comfortable over time.
