As we transition from winter to spring, a change in seasons brings around a plethora of delights; the temperatures are gently on the up, days feel a touch longer and nature starts its season of bloom. Along with it, there’s often a flurry of different lurgies doing the rounds, given our desire to do more now that we’re coming out of hibernation.
To help keep your immunity ticking over and to minimise catching any bugs, it’s important to soak up as many nutrients as possible. I’ll often make these immunity-boosting shots throughout the year, given the extensive gut health benefits many of these ingredients have to offer. Make a bottle of this once a week and serve yourself a boost of energy each morning - they certainly pack a punch.
Makes roughly x10 shots
2x lemons, peeled
50g ginger, scrubbed clean but you can leave the skin on
1x tbsp apple cider vinegar
½ tsp turmeric powder, or a finger-size piece of fresh turmeric
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
8 (ish) black peppercorns
1-3 tsp sweetener, honey or agave if you need something to take the edge off!
400ml water
Blitz all the ingredients together and then run through a sieve to separate the pulp out.
Pour the separated liquid into a sealed bottle for easy-pouring throughout the week for a morning boost.
The leftover pulp can be used to infuse tea, or use towards the base of a curry paste.
If the shots are too potent for you, you can make up the same mixture but then dilute each serving with 250ml of boiling water to make yourself an immunity-boosting tea.
