Eid al-Fitr is a time of celebration and thanksgiving, where Muslims gather with family and friends to pray, exchange gifts, and enjoy festive meals.
The exact date of Eid al-Fitr varies each year, as it is determined by the sighting of the new moon, but it typically falls on the first day of Shawwal, the month following Ramadan. Ingredients:
(serves 4)
1 sheet (8 ounces) frozen puff pastry, thawed according to instructions on the box
2 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
½ cup sugar
1 Tbsp orange blossom water
⅓ cup slivered almonds, plus more for garnish
⅓ cup pistachios, plus more for garnish
⅓ cup golden raisins, plus more for garnish
¼ cup condensed milk, plus more to finish
Method:
Preheat the oven to 400F.
Unfold the puff pastry sheet and cut into evenly sized squares. Place on a lined baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown and crisp. Set aside to cool. Keep the oven set to 400F.
Meanwhile add the milk, heavy cream, sugar, and orange blossom water to a saucepan. Stir to combine. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat for about 3 minutes until the milk is hot, but not boiling.
Crush the puff pastry squares using your hands and place in a baking dish. Add the nuts and raisins, toss to combine.
Pour the hot milk evenly over the puff pastry mixture.
Drizzle the top with ¼ cup of condensed milk.
Transfer the baking dish to the oven and bake for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, set the oven to the broil setting. Broil for 1-2 minutes until the top is very golden brown and bubbly.
