The change in season has us yearning to retreat indoors and make home feel as inviting as possible. We’re naturally drawn to deeper, moodier colors, softer textures and pieces with plenty of character – a feeling reflected in the interior trends we’re seeing this fall.
With an eye for color, pattern and the details that make a house feel like home, Georgie, our Art Director at Piglet in Bed, brings our playful, considered approach to interiors to life. Here, she shares the trends she’s loving this season, along with her tips for making them work at home.
1. Plum & Blue: The New Fall Mood
As interiors move towards richer schemes, plum and blue are emerging as one of the season’s defining color pairings. Combining the warmth and sophistication of deep plum with the calming depth of blue, the result feels rich and inviting without becoming too heavy.
For Georgie, soft furnishings are the easiest place to introduce the palette. “I love using plum and blue together because they create such a rich, layered feel.” Think plum velvet on an upholstered headboard, statement cushions or heavier curtains for a cocooning effect, then balance the deeper tones with crisp cream, ivory or white bedding.
For a little more depth, Georgie suggests bringing in warm wood. “Mahogany works beautifully with this palette.” On the walls, deep plum or rich blue can create a moody backdrop, while painted paneling adds a timeless feel. For something softer, limewash introduces movement and organic texture, taking the edge off a darker scheme.

2. The Return of the Canopy Bed
Canopy beds are making a comeback, reflecting a wider move towards pieces with longevity and a sense of craftsmanship. More than somewhere to sleep, their architectural form gives the bedroom a natural focal point while creating a feeling of enclosure and retreat.
“The architectural shape draws your eye upwards and creates a real focal point,” says Georgie. A slim metal or wooden frame keeps things timeless, while the fabric can completely change the mood. “Sheer linens or lightweight cottons create a soft, airy feel, while heavier patterned cottons or velvet bring warmth and a more cocooning effect.”
To bring the look together, Georgie recommends taking cues from the rest of the room. Let the bedding complement the canopy rather than compete with it, and echo the fabric’s colors through cushions, bedspreads or even a contrasting trim.

3. Earthy Reds: The New Comfort Color
After years of cool grays and pared-back minimalism, warmer shades are making their way back in. Terracotta, rust and deep orangey reds bring richness and natural warmth to the bedroom, making them particularly well suited to the colder months.
The key is to look for shades that feel earthy rather than vivid. “I always lean towards brown-based reds rather than anything too bright or saturated.” Georgie suggests starting with a soft clay or muted terracotta on the walls, then building depth through tonal layers of pale clay, dusty rose, cinnamon and deeper reds.
Natural materials help bring the palette to life. Linen and warm wood enhance its grounded feel, while cream, oatmeal and soft taupe can lighten the scheme. “Rather than relying on one statement color, layer closely related shades to create a richer, more considered space.”

4. Love to the Fifth Wall
Ceilings should no longer be an afterthought. Bringing color, pattern or architectural detail overhead adds depth and personality, while drawing the eye upwards can make a room feel more considered – and sometimes even more spacious.
“Ceilings are often overlooked, but they can completely transform a room.” Georgie likes extending wall color onto the ceiling for a color-drenched effect, or introducing a contrasting hue to highlight period details.
There’s plenty of scope beyond paint, too. Timber beams and panelling bring architectural interest and an earthy, rustic quality, while painted beams or panels can give traditional details a more contemporary feel. For something more decorative, delicate frescoes can add softness and an ethereal quality, while bolder or geometric designs create structure and frame the space.

5. Layers of Color & Texture
The secret to making richer schemes feel considered is not to match everything too closely. Instead, build a sense of connection through tonal color and contrasting textures.
“A room feels more interesting when you’re not trying to match everything,” says Georgie. Start with a base shade, then pick up similar tones throughout the room with bedding, cushions and other soft furnishings. “It’s about creating a thread that runs through the room rather than having everything in exactly the same shade.”
The same goes for texture. Mix natural linen with velvet, wood and woven finishes to give the room depth and keep the scheme from feeling too uniform.
